The mission behind 'Sing With Our Ears'

Reaching out to underserved communities with barbershop: That’s the motivation behind an upcoming performance at Patrick Henry High School.

As part of our "Sing With Our Ears" outreach program, GNU will be performing a free community concert on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry.

Earlier this year, GNU conducted a mini-clinic on barbershop at Patrick Henry. After singing a few numbers each, GNU member quartet Kordal Kombat and another GNU in-house quartet spent a great evening singing and teaching tags with students and community members.

Now the full chorus is returning to show off what barbershop can do.

GNU performs at ACDA National Conference

Great Northern Union recently performed at the 2017 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Conference.

Alongside past International Champion quartets Ringmasters and Crossroads and Barbershop Harmony staffer Joe Cerutti, GNU presented an informational session titled "Boys To Men: Building An Intergenerational Men's Choir."

With the conference being held in Minneapolis, the sessions were a great opportunity for both BHS and GNU alike to get barbershop music in front of some of the top choral music educators from around the nation.

The sessions focused on the “Four Pillars” of the GNU organizational model: performing a variety of repertoire, tag singing, building a strong community and camaraderie among members and competition.

Great Northern Union to collaborate with Robert Robinson

Fresh off winning their 24th district championship, Great Northern Union is looking toward the holidays.

GNU to sing in Music City, Opryland

One of Minnesota’s top male choirs is heading to Music City and the Grand Ole Opry.

Great Northern Union (GNU) is proud to announce its July 4-10 tour of Nashville, Tenn. As part of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention, GNU will be singing at some of Nashville’s most famous venues, including at the Grand Ole Opry Plaza, the Gaylord Opryland Resort and the Music City Walk of Fame Park.

Usually a competitor in the International Chorus Contest, Great Northern Union is attending the Convention instead to be of service to the Barbershop Harmony Society. The chorus will give performances designed to highlight and promote BHS’s outreach initiatives during Convention week throughout Nashville, where BHS has been headquartered since 2007.

GNU celebrates choral music across generations

Great Northern Union Chorus (GNU) has strived for and achieved multi-generational vocal excellence throughout its history.

Now in its 30th year of barbershop and a cappella singing, GNU will feature excellence at all ages with their latest production, Great Northern Union: Live at the Ordway. Headlined by GNU, the show will feature an array of new selections, performed with thrilling harmony and dynamic energy.

Real Men Sing Collegiate Showcase celebrates male singing in Midwestern colleges

When men sing, it makes a difference not just in their own lives, but in the lives of the audience and the community surrounding them.

That is the vision behind the Great Northern Union Chorus’ Real Men Sing program, a multi-level youth outreach initative that provides choral experiences to young men from middle school through their early 20’s through several annual programs.
