Great Northern Union to collaborate with Robert Robinson

Fresh off winning their 24th district championship, Great Northern Union is looking toward the holidays. Dec. 10 and 11, Great Northern Union Chorus will present “Holidays From The Heart,” performing a collection of traditional and new holiday songs, all in the chorus’s trademark high impact harmony.

This year the chorus will take the stage alongside special guest Twin Cities gospel singer Robert Robinson, whose accolades include being a two-time Minnesota Music Award Winner for Best Gospel Artist and Group, a three-time Minnesota Black Musicians Award Winner for Best Gospel Group and City Pages’ Best Male Vocalist. Robinson has performed with musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Andrae Couch, Kenny Loggins, Bobby McFerrin and more.

In addition to each performing their own material, GNU and Robert Robinson will perform several gospel numbers in collaboration. A sing-along number for audiences to participate will also be offered.

In October, the chorus won its 24th Land O’Lakes District Championship in Appleton, Wis., earning the right to compete in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Chorus Contest next summer. Led by Musical Director Douglas Carnes, GNU will be seeded in the top 10 going into the competition. The Land O’Lakes District is comprised of more than 50 choruses from four Midwestern states and three Canadian provinces.

The “Holidays From The Heart” performances will be held at Hopkins High School Auditorium, 2400 Lindberg Dr., Minnetonka, MN 55305. Show times are Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance at
