Great Northern Union will open its 2017 season with a return to Benson Great Hall. On April 29, GNU will hit the stage with new songs and old favorites from a variety of genres, including a fresh a cappella arrangement of Blue Swede’s 1974 hit “Hooked On A Feeling,” all powered by GNU’s trademark showmanship and high impact harmony.
GNU will be joined on stage by our guest artists Cantus, the acclaimed Minneapolis-based male vocal ensemble. One of just two professional classical male vocal groups in the United States, Cantus is known for its uniquely-artist-led programming and wide-ranging repertoire. The group performs nearly 70 live concerts and at 30 or more music education/outreach events each year. Cantus has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” Last year, the group performed a joint concert with the other U.S.-based professional male vocal ensemble—San Francisco’s Chanticleer. The concert was heralded by MinnPost as one of the top music and arts events of 2016.
GNU and Cantus will be performing a couple of songs together.
