It is well known that the Twin Cities area, as well as the upper Midwest, has a reputation for being a strong choral community.

That reputation is rooted in the number of world class college choir programs located in the area.   Choral programs at St. Olaf College, Luther College, St. John’s University, and Concordia College are just few of the institutions that have excelled over the years with strong programs.

In addition to the collegiate ranks, there are a number of professional and semi-professional choral ensembles in the Twin Cities metro.  In fact, one website lists over 80 community-based choirs in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Those include:

  • Minnesota Chorale
  • Cantus
  • The Singers
  • Vocal Essence
  • Minnesota BoyChoir
  • Exultate
  • Apollo Male Chorus
  • Bach Society of Minnesota
  • Choral Arts Ensemble
  • Kantorie
  • Land of Lakes Choir Boys
  • One Voice Mixed Chorus
  • Metropolitan Boys Choir
  • Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus
  • Rose Ensemble
  • Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir
  • National Lutheran Choir
  • Magnum Chorum

GNU has placed itself firmly in that community by singing a wide variety of repertoire very well and in many cases by producing collaborative performances with these groups.
