Financials

One of the huge success stories of the GNU is the financial condition of the chapter. Financial strength allows us to make investments in our artistic future and drives our outreach efforts. We operate with an annual budget of $175,000 to $200,000, generated from a number of sources including ticket sales, member dues, grants and donations, merchandise, and performance fees.

Raise the Roof

The Raise the Roof campaign is the GNU’s in-house fundraising campaign that seeks contributions from both members and non-members.  It was started ten years ago and provides significant resources for the chapter.  The following is list of the total member contributions over the last five years.

  • 2009 -- $19,297
  • 2010 -- $17,171
  • 2011 -- $23,484
  • 2012 -- $18,740
  • 2013 -- $20,324

Grants and Donations

The GNU has received a number of significant grants and donations over the past 4 years.  The leadership has been very active in encouraging this source of continued revenue for the chapter.

In 2008, Minnesota's voters passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment (Legacy Amendment) to the Minnesota Constitution.

The Legacy Amendment increased the state sales tax by three-eighths of one percent beginning on July 1, 2009 and continuing until 2034. A substantial portion of this revenue is directed to the arts and cultural heritage fund.
